Our Aims
Inspire
To inspire and equip African Caribbean students to pursue careers in the field of medicine and healthcare.
Recent studies within the UK have shown that African Caribbean students are poorly represented in British medical schools despite the fact that African Caribbeans make up a sizeable portion of the minority population in the UK.
We hope to inspire and enable more Black students to become doctors.
Aspire
To provide a platform that facilitates networking and encourages medical students and doctors to accomplish their career aspirations.
As a minority within the healthcare profession, it can sometimes feel like African Caribbean medical students are constantly treading new ground as they venture forth in medicine. From applying, to working their way through medical school and speciality training, it’s easy to feel alone and isolated. Training to be a doctor is a long and hard process but with the right support and advice we can all aspire for excellence and success.
ACMA aims to connect those who have gone before to those who are journeying now, so that all can benefit from the wealth of experience and wisdom.
Achieve
To increase the presence of African Caribbeans at every level in medical schools and the healthcare profession, from the clinical to the academic, achieving success as we go.
“If you’re going to do something, do it well!”
We want more Black senior academics and lecturers, more Black heads of medical schools, more Black consultants and clinical researchers.
In short: greater representation of Black African and Caribbean people at all levels of healthcare and all achieving the highest success!
